BROWNS BRASSERIE SOUTHGATE : TONY JAZZ REVIEW MAY 2025

๐Ÿท Browns Brasserie & Bar in Southgate is a stylish new addition to North London’s dining scene, having opened in April 2025 following a respectful refurbishment of the historic
Ye Olde Cherry Tree pub. Today after a nice round of golf at my local course I decided to check out this re-branded newly created  sophisticated watering hole:

๐Ÿ›️ Setting & Atmosphere

  • Housed in a Grade II-listed 17th-century coaching inn, the venue blends heritage charm with art deco elegance.

  • Features include exposed beams, a warped ceiling, and a piano lounge with live music every Sunday from 1–4pm.

  • A self playing Grand Piano in the main entrance

๐Ÿฝ️ Food & Drink

  • The menu celebrates British brasserie classics and seasonal dishes like pulled lamb shepherd’s pie, pea & asparagus risotto, and coronation cauliflower.

  • Sundays are all about roasts—think giant Yorkshire puddings, slow-cooked pork belly, and vegan Wellington.

  • Guests can enjoy bottomless brunch on weekends until 2pm, with free-flowing Champagne, Bellinis, and more.

  • Afternoon tea includes warm scones, Victoria sponge, and a gluten-free option accredited by Coeliac UK.

  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ What Guests Are Saying

    • Reviews are mixed: many praise the friendly staff and beautiful setting, especially the garden and outdoor seating.

    • Some diners found the food underwhelming for the price, citing small portions and inconsistent quality.

    • Service is generally warm, with standout mentions for staff like Chloe and Sarah who go the extra mile.

If you're after a relaxed meal in a historic setting with a modern twist, Browns Southgate might be worth a visit—especially for brunch or a celebratory afternoon tea. I found the fish & chips & mushy peas was great value for money including my non alcoholic strawberry cider. However although the service side had been a bit polished and not natural, plus there was no check back to see if I had enjoyed my meal once served. Also the Garden area didn't seem to have a constant flow of waiters so it was difficult to get someone's attention at times. Apart from this I wasn't too sure about the locals who use to come here when it was the Ye Olde Cherry Tree being too thrilled about the new dress code sign prominently displayed as you enter. Time will tell , but on the whole it's great place to catch up over a spot of decent Traditional English pub Grub!.
