Who is Myles Frost:
Myles Frost is an American actor, singer, songwriter, music producer, and dancer. Born on July 21, 1999, in Silver Spring, Maryland, he has made a significant impact in the world of musical theatre. Here are some fascinating details about him:
1. Early Years and Passion for Music:
o Raised by his mother, Charmayne Strayhorn (a systems engineer), and his grandmother (a school teacher), Myles developed two enduring passions early in life: golf (starting at age three) and music (beginning with piano lessons at age five).
o He sang, played the piano, and drums at church, and even performed in an R&B cover band during middle school at local shopping centers.
o While attending Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland, he participated in school productions of musicals such as Hairspray (as Seaweed), Legally Blonde (as Warner), and Cinderella (as Lord Pinkleton)1.
2. The Voice and Musical Journey:
o In 2017, while still in high school, Myles appeared as a contestant on The Voice, although he wasn’t selected by any of the coaches to advance further in the competition.
o After graduating from high school, he pursued music technology studies at Belmont University in Nashville. Later, he transferred to Bowie State University as an audio engineering major.
o However, fate had other plans for him when he was cast as Michael Jackson in the Broadway production of MJ the Musical1.
3. Portrayal of Michael Jackson:
o Myles earned the role of Michael Jackson after Ephraim Sykes left the production late in its development.
o The producers auditioned many established actors but broadened their search. A YouTube video of Myles performing the iconic song “Billie Jean” from a high school talent show caught their attention, leading to his invitation to audition and eventual win of the part.
o His portrayal received positive critical acclaim, and he made history by becoming the youngest solo recipient of the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical (a record previously held by Ben Platt)1.
4. Awards and Recognition:
o In 2022, Myles Frost won the Tony Award for his outstanding performance as Michael Jackson in the Broadway production of MJ the Musical.
o He also received a Grammy Award nomination for his contribution to the cast recording of the musical.
o Notably, he left the Broadway production in April 2023 but reprised the role as MJ in the West End production that opened in March 20242.
Myles Frost’s talent and dedication have left an indelible mark on the stage, and his portrayal of the King of Pop continues to captivate audiences worldwide. 12.
