A Stay Worth Its Salt (Sea Salt, That Is)

My recent stay at The View Hotel in Eastbourne proved that not every escape from London requires a passport — merely good taste and a decent balcony.

My Balcony Suite delivered handsomely on both fronts. The room itself was generously proportioned, but it was the balcony that stole the show, offering an uninterrupted 180-degree panorama sweeping from the pier to the famous white cliffs — a view that made checking my phone feel like a minor crime against nature.

Dinner arrived courtesy of the Artcain Restaurant's room service, where a classic fish & chips was executed with quiet confidence, followed by a chocolate fondant and ice cream that required no persuasion whatsoever. Few things pair better with a sea view than a fondant that oozes on cue.

Special mention must go to the staff, who elevated the stay from pleasant to memorable. James on Reception was helpfulness personified, while Pauline, overseeing breakfast, deserves particular credit for remembering my room number on every visit — a small courtesy that speaks volumes about the care taken here.

In short: a stress-free, warmly staffed hotel with the sea on one side and the white cliffs on the other. I'll be back — and I recommend it without hesitation to anyone seeking a proper escape from the capital.
